The word describes a substance
A peptide has a short chain of the small pieces used to build proteins. One example you may know is insulin.
As of September 2026, US law gives no single meaning to “peptide therapy.” Whether a medicine is approved or can be legally offered depends on the exact medicine.
So when an ad says “peptide care,” a useful reply is: Which medicine, for which health concern? A broad label is not much to compare.
Sort the product before the promise
An approved medicine
FDA is the Food and Drug Administration. It checks medicines before granting approval. As of September 2026, Ozempic’s semaglutide tablets and injections are approved for blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes. Wegovy’s semaglutide tablets and injections have approval for losing weight and maintaining that loss. Mounjaro’s tirzepatide injections are approved for blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes. Tirzepatide injections sold as Zepbound are approved for long-term weight care. This list gives some approved uses and leaves others out.
Ask which use your plan is for and whether it uses a tablet or an injection.
A medicine made to order
Making or mixing a drug to meet one patient’s own needs is called compounding. These drugs remain without FDA approval as of September 2026; preparation by a licensed pharmacy does not change their status.
A research label
As of September 2026, FDA warns people against using weight-drug products that carry research labels but are sold with use instructions. Their quality remains unknown; using them could be harmful.
What are you hoping would change?
Try putting your goal in everyday words. Is it a health problem, a symptom, or a concern raised by an ad? Talk about that goal with a doctor or nurse who provides medical care before choosing a medicine.
What would make this treatment a good fit for my health concern?
Ask for the reason in words you can repeat back. Ask about other options, too.
Keep this in mind
“Peptide” starts the conversation; the exact product and your health concern give it direction.
