Chapter notes

A prescription treated as optional

As of September 2026, a pharmacy may supply a prescription-only medicine only with a valid prescription, under federal law. A website offering to skip that step conflicts with the rule.

Ask who would check your health and how that person would decide whether to write a prescription. A payment page is not an answer to those questions.

A research label used as reassurance

FDA is the Food and Drug Administration. It checks medicines before granting approval. As of September 2026, it warns that weight-drug products carrying research labels and sold to people with use directions have unknown quality and may be harmful.

Pause when a site offers a treatment while its label says it is for research. Ask how the exact product fits into medical care, rather than treating the label as a shortcut.

Approval claims that change the meaning

As of September 2026, “FDA registered” on a label does not prove FDA approval. FDA also does not approve health care providers.

It is misleading to claim FDA approval for a medicine made to order. FDA has not approved that made-to-order medicine.

Are you describing the medicine’s approval, a business registration, or a professional licence?

Those are separate records. Ask which one the claim actually points to.

Pressure to change your health details

An Illinois Attorney General alert issued in January 2025 warns about services that ask people to give a false weight.

Keep your health information accurate. If a service asks you to change it, ask why.

A price that does all the persuading

FDA’s list checked in September 2026 treats unusually deep discounts as an online-pharmacy warning sign. A low price cannot establish a problem on its own; consider it together with the licence, prescription, and product checks.

Keep this in mind

Take more time if the medicine, the person writing your prescription, or the approval claim stays unclear. Ask for the missing detail before comparing offers.
